Reps Mobilise To Unseat Speaker Bankole

Despite moves by Chief Alani Bankole, father of the House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, lawmakers who are opposed to his continued leadership of the House today intensified their mobilization of other members to join the move to unseat the speaker.

Just yesterday,iReports-ng reported the deep moves by Chief Bankole to pacify influential lawmakers opposed to his son. The Reps are up in arms against him over his attempt to reverse their decision to slash his share of their quarterly loot from N350 million to between N130 million and N150 million.


iReports-ng gathered that the Reps opposed to Bankole are now operating under the aegis of SAVE THE HOUSE GROUP. A text message being sent round to Reps by members of the group was obtained by iReports-ng earlier today. The SMS reads:

“Dear Colleagues, Easter has come and gone . It was tough. No allowance because the House is heavily indebted to the banks for no tangible reason. We have been cheated in 2008 and 2009 to the tune of billions by Bankole. While he has been declared one of the richest men around, we are living from hand to mouth. Enough. Let us win our House back and restore our dignity. Join us now. SAVE THE HOUSE GROUP.”
With the recruitment and mobilization drive of this group, Bankole will need to work hard in the days ahead to be able to survive the impending storm in the green chamber of the National Assembly.
